the 66 is practically free and i plan to look at each part and use only if identical. the floor is not as bad as i thot, so will try and save as much of the original metal as possible.i'm trying to figure out what happened to this car. i think it was picked up by a fork lift, with the forks perpendicular to the front and back of car, and the rear ends of the front rails got pushed up thru the rotten floor! whoo! the car is totally striped now except for the steering gear box and steering linkage; can't find my pitman arm puller? plan to build a metal frame under car to square it up, weld supporting braces in, put it all on a rotisserie, blast it, and then start replacing metal. d

Hi Iowa, I think 750.00 is a steel with the shifter included, if you can get it for that. C Edited by - Builder11 on 05/31/2010 22:40:23

I recognize the VIN on this tranny. It is the one bought by a vendor for just $65.00 (the purchasers claim not mine) from another vendor at the mid Apr 2010 swap meet at New Braunfels TX. I posted the details on the forum after getting back home from the meet. Oddly, even though he was aware it was a Hipo piece based on the tag, he didn't know about the factory VIN stamping until I mentioned it to him. We rolled it over, and there it was.I imagine that little detail probably added 300.00 to his asking price.

Yeah, that is what I said in my last post. I bid on it earlier but will watch it now. I will see how I enjoy my C4 and if I want to shift, might step up to a T-5. Will have car ready this weekend with the 3.80 gears and hope that it doesn't drive me nuts. I am running a 4.30 on my '93 5.0 and with the T-5 it is great on the highway. Never fear the gear, but...

sorry about that. the above post made no sense, but was referring to the 'K' toploader on e bay.also, my understanding, is that only the convertibles had the little little 'tunnel'; the provision for the emergency brake cable just ahead of the wheel house part of the floor pan. yet my 'K' code car has these. is it possible that they used the convert. floor in my fastback? thanks iowa Edited by - iowa on 06/05/2010 16:11:49

Not sure what you mean by different parking brake configuration? In '67 the routing changed. For 65-66, the routing should have been consistent across all 3 body styles for what was being used at any point in production.

C65 it's not the brake lines themselves i'm talking about but the little tunnel in the rear floor pan which they go thru on the way back to the hubs. i thot that only the convertibles had these 'humps' in the metal. you can see a pic of them on pg 190 of the NPD catalog iowa

Not unique to convertibles. The catalog appears to be wrong on that.

From what I have seen, appears it was used on all body styles in '65. I have seen some late '65 where the cables didn't go through the holes though. But, instead, were secured to the bottom of the floor pan, kind of like a '66 (but not the same.)

The catalog is in error; that style of tunnel is found on all early cars that have the early style brake cables. The image below is of an early style cable from an unrestored 65 SJ FB. The notch in between the two pieces of rubber is where the cable bracket goes to fasten it to the frame. Inline Tube is the only company I am familiar with that sells reproductions of both the early and late-style cables. Unfortunately I don't know when the production change to place. The correct brackets and bolts are shown below courtesy of Charles' K blog spot.

i see this calif car on ebay for 5500 pretty good shape if as advertised. but i think it would be criminal if i bought it and harvested parts from it.http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1965-FORD-MUSTANG-PROJECT-4-SPEED-DISC-RALLY-PAC-AC-/110544951320?cmd=ViewItem&pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item19bcfe1818#v4-37 i just don't feel comfortable doing this. am still leaning toward a dynacorn floor but using all the original sheet metal off my floor that i can iowa Edited by - iowa on 06/11/2010 10:16:05

All 65 and 66 original floor pans have the dip behind the square shifter opening. It is where the backup light switch wires come through on a manual transmission. The Dynacorn floor pans do not have this dip. 67 and up manual transmission backup light wires were routed underneath and up the firewall so they do not have the dip.-Fred-

the dyacorn floors for the convertibles do have this dip. in fact, this convertible floor is the closest one to my original flooring. was there much difference between the cp/FB and the convertible floors? iowa

I've always been under the impression that the basic floor assembly was the same for all body styles. Convertibles just required additional reinforcement sections and unique seat riser. I have not had to delve into rusty projects that need floors very much, so there may be others willing to share their experiences on what they've found.

If I remember right, the Osobrn chassis assembly manual gives a starting point based on body style. Don't think it will be a problem.
