I picked up a black primer nos 65-66 L/f fender at a swap meet, it had date codes on the inner support braces but none on the top in- between the fender bolt holes as seen on assembly line fenders. is this normal for the later black nos fenders,

I bought a pair of front fenders for my mustang from my local ford dealer in 1979, and thats the way they were. (They were 149.00 each)

Thank you for your input, Do you mean the fenders you purchased in 1979 (did not) have date codes in-between the fender upper bolt holes as the fender i am talking about, Go to Top of Page

Those replacement fenders (as well as many service replacement sheet metal pieces) usually have a different date format, like "A 65", which I think is just a generic code.

Unfortunately, those black fenders are hit and miss on the sharpness of the lines and some of the manufacturing details may not match what was original to your car. It will probably fit ok, but when compared with an original assembly line fender, there will be noticeable differences.

Of course, your expectations and to what level you restore a car play into decisions like whether or not to use service replacement sheet metal.

I guess what i am trying to determine is if this is an actual nos ford replacment fender or repop due to the fact that there is no date code stamp in-beetween the upper fender bolt holes. Go to Top of Page

The Ford replacements usually had something stamped on the top lip like the assembly line pieces. The format might be different, though, as I mentioned. Post some pics of what you have. Go to Top of Page

Are there part numbers stenciled on the inside of the fenders? (Although it's possible to replicate a stencil, it's not too likely a reproduction would have a FoMoCo part number present.) Most factory replacement sheet metal bears a part number painted in a conspicuous yellow block letter and numeral font. Adhesive-backed paper labels with part numbers are used in place of stencils on later factory service replacement parts. As Charles mentioned, the last runs of fenders were made on tooling that show signs of wear, decreasing the "sharpness" of the feature lines... Go to Top of Page

I just went and looked to verify, the driver side has no number, the pass side does have a date code between the fender bolts, but there is an oval circle around it not like an original at all
Note: i sent email with the pic
