I'm trying to figure out correct color for my undercarriage on san jose koupe. Is it red oxide from front to back or all black or fire wall foward black and the rest red oxide. Thanks for the help.

Scrape some road grime off and see whats underneath it. Alot depends on the build date and if its red or a whites/pinkesh colorBig Al

My 9/65 San Jose FB had almost a salmon/pink looking red oxide on it before restoration. It was also on very thin (no runs and a few bare spots).

Thanks for posting that great picture. My late June '65 SJ FB is that color underneath. It also is very thin exactly like you mention.

Is the axle bumper rubber supposed to be on the body?, I thought it was more commonly on the 3rd member.

Maybe it's not a HipO but an A-code with 8" rear axle. Just a thought. /Bo

Would be a dual exhaust car with that plate, so a GT if it's an A code.Edited by - caspian65 on 07/23/2010 21:46:06

Yes Charles, GT 4-speed, A-code. And that is the original dual exhaust system visible. When I learned "real" GTs had this squared plate, I had to run out to check!

My 65 Fastback 7/65 was pinkish underneath, mixed red oxide with white primer until the colour was right,Just a thought you could do a top coat in the pink in satin to give it a bit of protection from the weather[:) The pink only went up to the front chassis rails were they turn up after that it was red oxide, anyone else have the same ?
