Differential restoration

Postby FM HIPO GT 1966 » Sat Jan 06, 2018 4:03 am

I cannot post pictures and I need help to find out codes explanation.
Please find a link here-under for transfer of pictures, could be useful to post some of these pictures on the site.
My car is an automatic K code coupe from 66.
It should have been a 3.50 limited slip but it was a 3.25 normal, I kept the 3.25 but went to limited slip.

Yann, You did a pretty nice job on your differential however it is not the correct one for your Kar. What you have is one for a 1967 full size car as it has the cast in pinion snubber hood on the pinion bearing retainer. The 66 model year uses a bolt on stamped steel snubber bracket with the rubber bumper attached to it which will not fit what you have. The main case is also for a 67 model year. Your limited slip appears to be the later traction lock version. Everything will work fine but the pinion bearing retainer will stand out more than anything else as making this wrong for your Kar. Your Kar normally would not have a pinion snubber rubber bumper attached to the body but you will need one if you use your current setup.

A 67 full size car for an example is a Ford Galaxie.

Thanks Fred, I have checked and it is installed correctly.
I did a 30 miles ride this morning, everything fine.
Valves closures on engine were reviewed as well and noise is better, less metallic.
All the best,
Yann
