Disc brake kit

Postby relicdog » Wed Dec 25, 2013 8:14 am

I'm thinking about changing front drum brake to disc,I have 5" stock wheels, all the kits I've seen so far call for 6" wheels,
are there kits that will work with 5" wheels.
Merry Christmas all,

If you use original Ford components for 65 and 66 Mustangs, you will not have any problems. The 67 setup, although similar, apparently needs the different wheel spacing.

Try e-bay, with some patients. You could also go with a later style single brake cylinder that uses different spindles instead of the four "puck" 65-67 bolt on version. You will also need an appropriate master cylinder, new lines and a proportioning valve no matter what you decide to use.

Be aware that the Granada style that a lot of people use will not work with your original wheels as the hub requires a larger center hole in the wheel. The Granada style does work with aftermarket mag type wheels.

I would try Jim Cowles at Shelby Parts and Restoration first. He always seems to have original KH (Kelsey-Hayes) calipers and other brake components such as the proportioning valves, etc.

His restoration work on these items is pretty amazing

I have an original front disc K/H setup. Let me know if you want to work out something. Tim

Remember the 67 caliper uses larger size fittings than 65-66. They will fit.
