The Autolite distributor cap is not much help on this as it needs a FoMoCo version.

Stamped letters under part number are 5AA. This has been restored cosmetically and mechanically to original specs and as you can see looks superb. As in the pictures I will include a proper #1 raised black dist cap and a new set of steel core Fomoco plug wires. Its light so it will ship pretty cheap and yes we will ship anywhere!

Maybe the $800 price scared people off.

Here's a (polished?) dual point distributor for sale by eBay member "mustangmasters428" with a starting bid of $495.00.

DESCRIPTION: "Here we have a good used FoMoCo Dual Point Distributor for a 289 High Performance engine, commonly used in Mustangs, Fairlanes, and Cyclones. Standard distributors were equipped with a vacuum advance pod on the side, unlike these high performance units, which offered no vacuum advance.

This original distributor has no extra holes modifications and is in good used working condition. The lobes are crisp to snap both sets of points open as originally designed. No excessive play in the shaft, this unit has no visible signs of gouges, welds, or repairs. This piece can be used as is, but would certainly be a perfect candidate for the GT 350 or K code classic restoration.

It also has a good condition rubber ring on the shaft that is expected to seal tightly without need for replacement and the points and condenser are in excellent condition. This unit has the factory part number of C5OF-12127-E which was for the 65 66 and 67 years, Email for date, please check your date application if you are a show car owner or better.

A great distributor for the daily driver or better, if you own a HiPo equipped Mustang, Fairlane, or Thunderbird this is your distributor! If by chance you are building that HiPo 289 Mustang don't let this auction pass you by!"

The seller currently has this listed as an Autolite rather than a FoMoCo distributor for some reason. The pictures in the auction do show a FoMoCo distributor that is in need of some attention, such as the primary wire.

Exactly right...He also has an Autolite dual point distributor for sale on eBay (which didn't sell). The same description is used in both auctions, and is most likely just copied and pasted. He didn't bother to proof read and edit the most important detail: the Autolite vs FoMoCo stamping. I'm assuming the pictured distributor (FoMoCo) is the one for sale. Is everyone confused??? :?

Here's a "remanufactured, service replacement" FoMoCo dual point distributor that is based on a standard housing. It's for sale by eBay member "theblue302". (Not exactly concours correct, but probably functions just fine for a driver...)

DESCRIPTION: "You are bidding on a remanufactured service replacement Ford dual point distributor. Correct for the Mustang or Fairlane 289 HiPo from 1964 1/2 to 1968. Will also work in stock 302 and Boss 302 engines. I purchased a few of these from a Ford dealer at the All Ford Nationals. Comes complete, totally fresh restored as in pictures. Correct early FoMoCo housing, Part number on metal tag attached to FoMoCo housing: C5OF-12127-E."

Here's another FoMoCo dual point distributor for sale by eBay member "highriserlightweight " with a Bin price of $200.

DESCRIPTION: "Nice original 289 HP dual point distributor. Perfect for that K code Mustang restoration or Shelby. This is the more rare of the two versions available. Notice how this distributor says FOMOCO vs the more common Autolite. The part # reads C50F 12127 E with a date code of 5JC. The C is somewhat faint but can still be made out. Distributor turns nice and free and distributor wire is in perfect shape. One of the aluminum bosses that the cap clamps are pinned has a small piece chipped away. This does not affect the distributor as the cap is still retained with good tension, just wanted to make mention of it to the perfectionist. Buyer to pay fixed shipping of $20.00 which includes insurance."

This one had a very late production date for a FoMoCo casting of 8F24 which is June 24, 1968. The Autolite pieces had already been in production for some time and this must have been Fords way of using up remaining inventory. I have seen others like this and even had two of these with these late dates myself. These were too late to have been production pieces as they were built long after the last Hipo Kar was produced so they had to be replacement units.
