I take it all original fans were date stamped?

This fan sold for $565.00 March 21, 2016 with 4 bids from 3 bidders. It is surprising that the seller could not find the date code but perhaps they just missed it as sometimes the fan needs to be well cleaned first. If someone on this forum purchased this fan perhaps they can confirm the lack of a date code. The date code location varies on these fans.

The seller would probably have better luck with the selling of this fan if they just stripped off the bad paint. That would also probably reveal a date code as well.

Forgive my ignorance, but isn't the date on the fourth photo? I see a (very vague) C and 68?

I see what you are referring to but the problem is that the latest date code on these fans that I have seen is December of 1966 for the 1967 model year. Ford changed over to the more common and cheap C6OE fan during the 1967 model year and obsoleted this type of fan. Therefore I find it highly unlikely that it has a 1968 date code. If it is indeed a 68 date code, it would be great to put it on the shelf beside my NOS 1968 only Hipo 289 fuel pump. Yes, I really do have the pump it is just that Ford never built a Kar to use it on. I find it more likely to be a 1963 date code although it is not totally clear. In this case it would be wise to consider who the seller is. You can email off of the forum on that.

Yeah, I was surprised that it is stamped 68 as fans are one thing I do know a little about and know they "shouldn't" be stamped 68, but that that looks like a very obvious 68. I think there's a possibility it might have been re-stamped. Maybe it "was" 63 and someone mistook it as 68? I am in no way suggesting the seller did this, just purely conjecture on my part.

I'm also wondering if what I think looks like a C is in fact a 6? The shape looks pretty well the same as the 6. I have no idea if the C follows the same shape as the 6. The larger stamped C bearers no resemblance to the 6 in terms of width or curl on the ends.

Maybe I need to stop looking

Maybe Ford should have spelled out the date codes with letters instead? ;) :ugeek:
