I bought a set of NON star BF32 plugs 4 years ago during my Kars restoration, my restorer told me of horrible failures with 2 different sets in his own Kars in that 2 plugs had come apart and done considerable damage under the hood - he advised me NOT to use them-HE put in the 45s, I put in the BF32s and have run the engine and driven my car about 25 miles since and experianced no problems.

(I paid $45.00 for my set of NON star plugs)

I suppose spark plug failures can happen, but I can't say I've ever had one come apart and cause engine damage. I've been using BF-32's and BF-42"s exclusively in three different HiPo 289's over the last 40+ years. I think if they are properly installed and torqued, it's not going to be a worry.

I believe what KGTCONV was referring to was damage under the hood and not to the engine. When a plug or parts of it blow out, there is a lot of force exerted on the pieces that can damage something in their path. It is certainly possibly to accidentally crack a plug while installing it which will result in a failure.

How much do think a set of 8 NOS star 32's without the boxes is worth? I may part with them for a reasonable price. They are not eating anything so not going to give them away at non star price.

I wonder if it would be worth it to try & get the BF32s with the stars reproduced?? may be Scott Drake could do it?? they did pretty good on the new headlights execpt the lower weird "U".......

I think its all in the installer and/or tools used in spark plug installation.....never ever heard of ANY plug coming apart and doing damage under the hood.....before my restorer mentioned it.

I guess anything's possible, but I'd be concerned about the source of the "blank" spark plugs to be marked with the star. I've always used original Autolite plugs in my engines for a very good reason: they perform with NO problems. Using a "reproduction" plug may not be the same in that regard.
