Interesting auction. I had a "spare" HiPo engine from an early Fairlane, and the painted valve covers had the same decal as this one does.

Here's an almost complete engine for sale by eBay member "fordracer4life" at a fixed price of $4,500.00.

DESCRIPTION: "Up for sale is one used 1966 289 HIPO complete, removed from a 1966 Ford Mustang. I am selling this as a complete assembled long block with intake, oil pan, valve covers, balancer, alternator with brackets, air cleaner, dual points distributor with aftermarket electronic conversion, and exhaust manifolds, basically just as the pictures show. I am unsure if the exhaust manifolds, air cleaner and valve covers are reproduction, as they are in great shape for their age. THIS ENGINE DOES NOT COME WITH A CARBURETOR.The cylinder heads have the correct screw in studs and factory spring cups. The block has the large main caps, HiPo counter weights on the crankshaft, and 3/8 bolts on the connecting rods. I purchased this in a project car that ended up getting parted out, and never heard it run. I do not know the specs on the camshaft, or how many horse power this engine will put out. Basically I am selling a great starting point for someone putting together a Shelby, Cobra or HiPo car. This engine should be completly checked over before running, or possibly even rebuilt. This engine is for local pickup only, or the buyer can arrange their own shipping. I would prefer the buyer come in person prior to purchasing to view exactly what they are buying."

This K engine is for sale by eBay member "1957or1960".

DESCRIPTION: "Hey guys, selling my spare K engine. This is a genuine Ford 289 c.i. HIPO engine. The block does NOT have the vin. code stamped on it. I do have the title of the car the engine came out of. It was a wrecked 65' Michigan Mustang with vin. # 5T07K143828 (vin is stamped on rear end & tranny). This vin. is registered in the HIPO registry. The engine was rebuilt to substantially orginal specs. Some identifying numbers are:

Block C5AE 6015E, build date 5B9
Carb C40F-AL, build date A4JD, restored by Pony Carbs in 2008
Distributor C50F - 12131 - B, restored by Tim O'Conner in 2010, installed Pertronix
Cylinder heads C50Z-6049-B, build date 5A11, both stamped with "21"

The engine was rebuilt in June 2009 and has about 1000 miles on it since. I'll do my best to describe what was done as I review the receipts. Had a ring go bad and score the side of a cylinder. This cylinder needed to be sleeved. All cylinders bored .030 over. Forged pistons installed. New: rod & main bearings; oil pump; Marv Shaner's HIPO cam; NOS lifters, cam sprocket, cam retainer plate & timing chain; block resurfaced; heads worked on and hardened valves; engine balanced. Engine is located in NW Ohio."
