Found: 5F09K393008 HEH-T Toploader

If you find an engine, tranny, buck tag, build sheet, or any other documentation with a K VIN, post it here so it can hopefully be reunited with its Kar. You can also make an 'In Search Of' post with the VIN you're hoping to find.

I now have in my possession a close ratio toploader (HEH-T) with VIN 5F09K393008 stamped on it. The car is not listed in the registry but I thought I'd check to see if anyone currently owns this K car and has just not registered it. I know there are still unregistered kars out there - my 65 coupe that I purchased last year wasn't in the registry until my ownership.

Thanks for posting this VIN. This is good information that is sometimes tough to find.

As usual Fred is the master of understatement. Having your VIN identified transmission appear is akin to seeing the winning lotto numbers on your ticket. Nice, but the odds are astronomical.

Congratulations

I figured it couldn't hurt to try to see if the car is still out there. Odds are it's probably not. Is the registry still collecting VINs based on engines/transmissions, and door tags?

Perhaps Hank can chime in on this?

Just finding a VIN stamped HEH-T is pretty cool. If you can just hang on to it for a while, the rest of the car or even the engine might surface somewhere. Stranger things have happened...

I pulled my trans out, for what was supposed to be a temporary substitution of a wide ratio, because it wouldn't shift into 2nd. That was 36 years ago. It got shoved off to the side, forgot about, and now I do not know what happened to it. I have a vague recollection it was picked up by a friend and stored at his mothers garage. If it was, it has since moved to a new city after he cleaned out the garage in the mid 80's, and someday I may go through his warehouse of parts to look for it. Or it made it to a landfill.

The only thing worse would be if it's installed in a Chevy drag car...

Dang Chevys is right. I've moved to a small town and there is no Ford or Mustang car club, just an "old car club" in which most of the members drive the cursed Chevy. I joined up anyway and am going to spend my remaining years showing these gold ole boys the errors of their ways....

I plan to hold on to it unless the owner of the kar contacts me through the registry.

If the VIN only data is still being collected for the registry based on engines/trans, etc. I'd like to get this VIN added.
