Looking for engine block 5r09k239422

If you find an engine, tranny, buck tag, build sheet, or any other documentation with a K VIN, post it here so it can hopefully be reunited with its Kar. You can also make an 'In Search Of' post with the VIN you're hoping to find.

Looking for engine block 5r09k239422

Postby 289ace » Sun Mar 20, 2016 8:02 pm

Hi,
Its been a while since I logged on here as there have been competing priorities. However, I am now helping a friend with a K fastback and he ask me to check around and see if I could maybe find his engine block. The VIN is 5R09k239422 and if anyone has or has seen his block please let me know.

TIA

Can we assume that this is not a Shelby?

Hi Fred, That would be a good assumption.

Can we also assume that it currently has an engine?

He has had the car since the early '90s and drove it until recently when he decided to do work on it. It needs some rust repair and general maintenance but is fairly solid. The engine that is in the car is supposedly also from a K car but I have not confirmed it. It does have the correct balancer, but has a Holley, headers, and aftermarket distributor. Since he has a K motor in it, he is not desperate to get a different engine, but thought if his original was still around, he might be interested in finding it.

If his current block has a vin stamp, posting that information might help someone else.

I'll check with him, but I believe he will hold off on providing the VIN from his engine (if its a real K motor) unless he finds the original block from his car.

Understood. Excect if I found someone had the original block for my k car, I would gladly provide him an alternative k block plus cash. So he'd be up $ and no worse than he was in his search.

It may be worthwhile posting this on Shelby and Concours sites as well.

While I agree with you and I would certainly do what you say, its his decision. I'll be helping him this weekend and talk to him more about it and see if I can get underneath to check for a VIN.

Fred, Thanks for the ideas. I'll investigate and see if it makes sense for me to go down those paths. Since he does not do computers, it will be me doing all of the posting and follow ups.

I hope you find it, that would be one hell of a needle in a haystack, but man would it be worth it if you could reunite the two :D

Good luck!

Since I genuinely enjoy playing with cars, it is not as altruistic as it seems. It also seems that every time I start on a search like this I end up discovering many new things so it is usually a Win-Win.

Just a quick update to say we have found this block through some friends and acquaintances and will hopefully be re-uniting it with the car. The current owner of the engine has no need for it so he is willing to let it go, but we need to work out a price, logistics, and configuration. He is rebuilding another engine for his car and may want to keep all of the internals so it may just be the bare block, but that will OK. Fingers are crossed for a happy reunion and there may be a need for some hipo rods and a crank.

Wow, that is incredible!! That didn't take as long as I was expecting, I thought that hunt might have lasted for years and possibly ended in tears, but wow, congratulations!! Good luck with all the logistics and the finer details.

I would be having one big party!

We will certainly have a few cold ones once we complete the deal, but still have some work to do to get there.

Can we get an update on this story and also the K-code vin that was in the kar so we can try to find its original Kar and owner?
Currently: 1966 Ford Mustang Fastback, K-code, HiPo, GT-350 Clone, Signalflare Red, black interior
Formerly: 1965 Ford Mustang Coupe, A-code, Wimbledon White, red interior
