289 HiPo 50th Anniversary Celebration/Carlisle Ford National

Postby bobmannel » Mon Oct 15, 2012 1:49 pm

The Events Manager for Carlisle Productions is now pushing forward to make the 289 HiPo 50th Anniversary Celebration happen at the 2013 Carlisle Ford Nationals. We would like to see a good showing of all cars powered by this engine. I would hope to see plenty of Mustangs there.

The dates are June 7-9, 2013. More details will be forthcoming as they are available. If you know you will be there, please email me at bobmannel@charter.net. the more numbers I have, the more serious we will be taken.

At the moment, they are planning on us using Building G near Gate 1 and surrounding area. This is where the FEs were this past summer.

Please spread the word to everyone you know. This is an event you will not want to miss. I hope we see Cobras, Shelbys, Fairlanes, Comets, Canadian Falcons, Griffiths, race cars, etc. Should be an amazing time for those who love this engine.

Got anyone here with an "in" to the Mustang Club of America? I sent an email through their website, but still waiting for a response.

WOW! Is everyone asleep? Cobra guys are in, Fairlanes onboard, SAAC participating, even the Comets and Canadian Falcon guys are hoping to be there. Milo Coleman will be there, and we are just getting started.

But, can't seem to light a fire under the Mustangers. Sent an email to MCA's general contact. Silence. Contacted a friend on mine in the MCA and he is helping out. But I had expected more of a "Yipee!" at the news. I am excited -- staring at dozens of HiPo engines and K-codes for a weekend. What could be greater?

Got you on the list Joe. Thanks for spreading the word. I just don't want owners to pass up on this once-in-a-lifetime event. It won't happen again in our lifetime.

Yes, as Bob has said, it really is official....Here's a quote from the Carlisle web site:

"Calling All High Performance 289’s

Ford Nationals to Host 50th Anniversary Display and Reunion

For 2013, we're celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the High Performance 289 Engine with a very unique display, never assembled like this before. In 1963, Ford Motor Company released a no compromise, high revving “Challenger” V8. In addition to this engine becoming a dominant presence in road racing and among performance enthusiasts, it was offered as optional equipment in production Fairlanes, Comets and Mustangs. Known as the “K-Code,” we cannot forget Cobras, GT40s and Shelby GT-350s also to be included in this display. We are looking to put together an extra special Invitational Display and classes for this anniversary. If you have a High Performance 289 powered vehicle and have interest in displaying it as part of our reunion display, please take a moment and submit an Invitational Display application."

I just submitted my registration for the 2013 Carlisle Ford Nationals and got the extra 20% discount for early registrations. There really is a class for 289 High Performance Mustangs under "Special Displays/Special Interest HiPo 289 K Code Mustang", Classification #101 on the Showfield Registration Form. Can't wait 'til June!

Keep spreading the word! We should have two 1965 Comets there. Art Goodsel is bringing a 63 Fairlane that Milo Coleman had built to replica his original (it was lost in an accident) that won the 1963 Indy NHRA Nationals. I expect Milo Coleman himself to be there. I am hoping Dean McCann, who was his mechanic, will be there, too. Tell everyone you know -- this will be the greatest show on earth, if you are a HiPo guy!

Consider bringing it anyway, if possible,, even if it's not finished. Sixty sevens are just SO rare! Everyone likes seeing a "work in progress".

Absolutely! The Ford Nationals at Carlisle is always worth going to, but this year the 289 HiPo is going to be showcased in a special display that will be second to none. Besides the "usual" K code cars, there will be REAL 289 COBRA's, and GT 350's. I'm not sure if there will be any 289 powered GT 40's, but it may be a possibility as well. If you've never been there before, be prepared for a massive display of all things Ford. The vendor section will boggle, and is large enough to have something for everyone. It takes more than a day to see it all. I'm planning to be there from Thursday to Sunday, and still won't see everything I want to.

Hello Folks,
I will be there with my Nightmist Blue '66 GT 2+2.
I'll be driving up from Charlotte, NC if anyone is heading that way.
I'll be meeting Keith Cannon about midway with two of his Kars.

Looking forward to seeing everyone there!

This looks like fun, although I have a few questions having never attended any Carlisle event. Is it easy to find motel rooms or do you get rooms well in advance of the event like when attending MCA shows. Is this a show or more of a "gathering of Ford powered cars".

Maybe I should be looking for a Carlisle Ford National website? Qman

You bet it's going to be fun...It's best to make reservations right now because area hotel rooms always sell out well in advance, and several are already booked solid. This event is probably 10X's bigger than any MCA National. The Carlisle Ford Nationals has a HUGE vendor section that is focused on everything Ford. The car show features well over 2,000 Ford vehicles, and more than 100 classes of Mustangs that are sure to please. Read more HERE .
