I must be missing something in that photo. No matter how much I stare at it I still don't see a car, let alone a hood or jacka$$...

You and I see 20-20. The rest of these ya-hoos are hallucinating a car, clearly where there is no car.

I am seeing double though. If that's a problems, I don't care.

Maybe that's from sewing too much?

Eye strain. Trying to remove (gals) clothing with your eyes instead your hands may be safer, but it has its drawbacks.

A closer look at some oddities:

66 retractable prototype.
Image

Factory built '68 302 Tunnelport.
Image

'70 Boss 302 untouched promo. Note blacked out rear tail light panel, '69 wheels & 1970 body stripe (way off on rear quarter). This car was painted a not standard color with a non standard colored interior. This was a common practice to "create contrast" when the photo was printed in black & white. (Much cheaper to print)

Image

Another example of independent tail light bezels. The blue HiPo fastback and the yellow vert were used often in promotional ads for 1966.

Image

A closer look at the HiPo fastback rear panel. Also note the pop open gas cap with the "Ford Mustang" around the cap itself, not on it. This is another example of black and white vs color as you will note upon closer inspection of the color photo that the interior of this car is blue with white appointments. The B&W photo makes it appear white. This was also done to "show contrast" when printed.

Some more promo fun: 8-)

'68 GT untouched secretary promo.

Same car again, same day, college girl promo # 2 B&W: Notice the difference?

If you have a sharp eye, you will notice the broken drivers seat in photos #2 & #3. If you look closely at photo #1 you will see why. :o

Photo # 1 is a GT350R prototype. Notice HiPo in background.
Image

Photo # 2 is still a question. It is labeled "prop". If you look closely you can see the Shelby hood scoop and LeMans stripes on the hood, roof and trunk. The car also has a painted MUSTANG GT on the top of the left fender.

The 65 GT350 website, http://1965gt350mustang.com/history.html, has some info on the car in Photo #2. Scroll down to the second pair of images...

Snoopy, 5S127, was owned and raced by the late Walter Walls, a very nice guy. Remember the convention in Portland 25 years ago, when Walter and I were standing talking and checking the judging of 65's when a guy came up to us and said he had some 65 Shelby parts including a tach. Walter was missing his correct tach as it had gone faulty when he just bought the car in 65 and Shelby sent a 66 tach which Walter put into his car. Walter almost peed in his pants when he asked the guy if he could buy the tach and have him send it to him. The guy said yes but he had the tach in his truck in the parking lot. Walter asked how much and the guy said $200. Walter bought it on the spot.

Great story...seems SHELBY parts were kind of pricey even a long time ago.

There was a massive spike in Cobra & Shelby prices in the 1980's, primarily due to Japanese millionaires getting into collecting those cars with seemingly unlimited funding. The boom crashed and it's taken 35 years to reach those levels again.

More fun with promo shots:

Notice cars, people and subtle changes.
Image

Another "on the beach" promo shot. Or is it? The water is a giveaway.
Image

Not convinced? Same car (note license number), same day, same people.
Image

Another gem. Notice cables and lighting equipment in far right of photo. Also, if the people appear a bit blurry it's because they were added later.
