This is the first time that I have seen the VIN stamped on the tail housing rather than the main case.

HiPo Toploader transmission: 6T09K19455*

Two questions:

1. Is this the correct vin stamp location on this toploader transmission?
2. Note that its missing a character as well. 6T09K19455* I spoke to the seller and he says he believes the eleventh digit was never stamped or so faint that it cannot be seen at all. Thoughts?

This transmission was in another section so I moved it here. I posted my thoughts about the VIN as I have never before seen the VIN stamped on the tail housing rather than the main case.

I spoke to the seller. He claims he bought it from a gentleman who said it came out of a 1966 Shelby, so the seller thought that the vin stamp location may have been in a different area than regular k-code transmissions.

It is my understanding though that 1966 Shelby GT-350s came with a Borg Warner transmission, not a Toploader.

Does any of what I or the seller said have any truth in it?

It is certainly possible that the transmission was in a Shelby at one time but it certainly was NOT original to a Shelby. The transmission has a Metucheon VIN and Shelbys were built in San Jose. You are correct that Shelbys used a T10 transmission and not the toploader.

I once put a wide ratio toploader in a '66 Shelby while I had the T-10 mothballed, but didn't VIN stamp the toploader to mark the occasion.

When I removed the toploader it still didn't have a VIN stamped on the tailshaft or main case housing (that I didn't stamp on it earlier).

PS. the T-10 (original) didn't have any serial numbers on it, Shelby or Ford. But it did have a cast iron tailshaft housing. Many of the '66 Shelby's had T-10's that had mismatched housings.

So Z, can you please explain to us who are unknowledgeable of these things, how it is possible for a transmission without a VIN stamp to be installed by you in your Shelby and miraculously did not have a VIN stamp when you removed it. This just seems to defy all logic. :) :)

Hey guys, how about a VIN stamped transmission or engine that gets installed in a different chassis. Should it have the current VIN stamped next to the original one? ;)
